On Friday 29 November 2024, the Heritage team of the municipality of Zwolle will organize the (archaeological) leather congress. It is the fourth time that the congress is organized. After 's-Hertogenbosch, Delft and Dordrecht, this time in Zwolle.
This day is dedicated to the conservation and research of leather finds from archaeological contexts. The keynote lecture will be given by Angela Middleton from Heritage England and Arianne Panton from The Leather Conservation Centre. Marquita Volken from the Lausanne Shoe Museum, an expert in the field of archaeological footwear, will also be present.
I will give a lecture on the use of contemporary shoe sizes in relation to archaeological footwear from before the mid-nineteenth century.
The conference is open to anyone interested in archaeological leather.
