We have been working on it for quite some time, but it is now starting to take shape: the Shoe Book!
In the Shoe Book we pay tribute to all shoe designers who have been involved in designing and making shoes in the broadest sense of the word over the past 70 years. ‘We’ are a group of shoe lovers led by shoe designer Hester Vlamings and myself. It will be a thick coffee table book in which well-known designers such as Jan Jansen, Charles Bergmans and René van den Berg will of course make an appearance, but in which we will also pay a great deal of attention to the role of female designers and shoe training courses and the changes that these have brought about in the national shoe landscape.
The book is divided into decades (quite a challenge in itself, as we have covered more than 300 names so far) so that we can also show these social developments.
The book is published by Lecturis and the intended publication date is October 2026. There is also a beautiful website, created by Milou Hillegers of the Schoenwerkplaats.
