This special pre-loved bag from the Italian label ETRO should not be missing in the collection of the true enthusiast! ETRO may not be that well-known as a fashion label in the Netherlands, but the fashion house has guaranteed a distinctive style and quality for more than 50 years.
ETRO was founded in 1968 by Gerolamo (Gimmo) Etro. Gimmo originally designed and made scarves with Paisley motifs. Such motifs have a history of at least 1500 years and originated in Persia. Via India, a former colony of the British kingdom, the motif ended up in Scotland where the town of Paisley became world famous for its textile production.
Gimmo Etro also went through a whole development with his company. In 1981, under the influence of Gimmo's son Jacopo, a department of interior fabrics was added to ETRO, followed by its own Home collection in 1985.
A year earlier, ETRO started producing a leather goods line that also incorporated paisley fabrics. Such bags are still part of the collections today. The bag you see in the photos here was probably made in the period 1995-2000. It is a so-called ‘mini shoulder bag’.
The base consists of white leather with yellow and mint green accents. The bag has a flap with white and green ruffles but the most striking thing about the bag is the decoration of brightly colored enameled flowers with colored facet cut glass gems and a ladybug with 'diamonds' instead of dots. The shoulder strap is also white and green, finished with yellow accents and green tassels. Furthermore, the bag is also finished with gold colored studs and hardware. The lining is made of a beautiful deep green satin.
