Between mid-April and the end of June, Valuable th’Ing was reinforced with the arrival of intern Shaney Roque da Silva. Shaney, now a second-year student Shoe Developer at the Dutch Shoe Academy in Utrecht, came to Roosendaal one day a week to help me with the web shop products. He painted and retouched bags and shoes, took and edited photos and provided a few Kop en Staart shoes of beautiful new soles and heel tips. The latter he did at school because they have the necessary machines there.
Although Shaney was only at the end of his first year of study at the time of his internship, I dare to call him a gifted shoe designer and maker-in-the-making. During the final show of the Dutch Shoe Academy, early July, he showed his own design together with fellow students from all four years. Not only had he designed a refreshing variation on the lace-up muff, but he had also executed his difficult design very beautifully. That is a combination of qualities that are not self-evident. I will follow Shaney closely and we will definitely see each other again!
